Enjoy the traditional taste of baked confectionery

The recipe was first taught to Shinjuku Nakamuraya by an confectioner who worked for Russian Emperor. Today the only shop that still produces these Russian style cookies is Tateyama Nakamuraya. They are twice baked, and then decorated with jam, chocolate, or nuts. These traditional Russian cookies go well with strong coffee or tea.

  • Also don’t miss out their mocha soft ice cream, everybody’s favorite.

Its light saltiness makes for a popular item

The combination of a moist fluffy bun and a slightly salty and flavored cheese cream is almost poetry. Not only the product itself, but the packaging under the name “Trebon” is a story 45 years in the making, and is a local favorite (162 yen – tax inc). Their other popular lineup includes Ichigo Mochi (seasonal) and Cheese sable.

Gyunyu Sembei

A gold medal award winning sweet representing Tateyama

Their top product is Gyunyu Sembei, or milk cracker, and was created and produced first in 1932 by the owner’s grandfather. As well as being the Gold medal winner at the 19th National Confectionery Contest, this well-known snack is a true representative of sweets found in the Tateyama area. The Boso area is the birthplace of dairy farming in Japan. Using fresh milk and baked by hand, these crispy crackers are a great accompaniment to a relaxing cup of tea.

Inspired by the fresh sea breeze from Tateyama Bay, Nagidora is a traditional Japanese sweet, served with pride. For 140 yen (tax inc), hand made Hokkaido bean paste is wrapped in a fluffy bun. A perfect refreshment on a busy day.
